Prayer for Peace

A friend of mine has started sending me a Prayer for Peace each day. I always take time for the short reading, and today the poem written by Jamie Sams really touched me, so I want to share it here.

I have resonated with much of Jamie Sams' work for many years, have read most of her books, & carry several of them in my shop including Other Council Fires Were Here Before Ours. Jamie is probably best known for her Sacred Path Cards and the Medicine Cards deck, both of which we also carry in our shop.

Anyway, here is the poem:

Oh, you of wounded spirits,
I offer you a place of rest;
Walk among my mountains,
And climb to Eagle's nest.
Come swim my oceans,
Or feel my desert's fire.
Sit beside running waters
To reclaim your heart's desire.
Seek my silent forests,
Or walk my open plains,
Travel the deepest jungles
'Til you hear my love's refrain.
I am always waiting
To allow each child to heal,
To cradle the wounded spirits,
And teach them how to feel.
I am the Earth Mother,
Who loves without regret,
Tending all my children,
Who through tears
have paid all debts.

Operation World Smudge

Yesterday I received an invitation to participate in Operation World Smudge. I think it's a wonderful idea - maybe you'll want to articipate, too! Here's the info:

Smudge where you are! Participate from home!

Smudging is a Native American tradition that involves the burning of herbs such as: sage, sweet-grass, tobacco and cedar for the purpose of purification. Join in the WORLD SMUDGE event and smudge your home, office or land on Inauguration Day. Help clear out the old administration and prepare a clear space for change.

Elements of Magic starts Tuesday

On Tuesday evening I begin teaching the newest Elements of Magic class. It's every Tuesday evening for 6 weeks. It's one of my favorite classes, so I try to teach it about once a year. My teaching partner, Beth & I are doing it together. Elements is the first class in the Reclaiming Tradition of Goddess spirituality, and as the name of the class indicates, uses the structure of the Elements (Air, Fire, Water, Earth & Spirit) to present the work. We could probably fit another person or 2 into the class, so if you're interested, email me at LabyrinthHerbs@aol.com

Where have I been?

I feel like I've neglected the blog over the last several weeks. It's been a very busy time at the shop, so that's where I've been. And knitting in every spare moment. Which leads me to what I've been thinking about for the last day or two.

What does an herbalist do in the Winter?

Mostly, we move to indoor activities. Knitting, writing, going through closets. And helping everyone deal with their colds & coughs. Some teaching, too. Dreaming about new gardens.

So, anyway, I think I'll try to write a little about those sorts of things over the next few weeks. Now, I need to get down to Radiance & unpack the boxes that arrived last week while we were closed for vacation.
