Several people I know have a tag line on their email signatures from the last line of this wonderful poem by Mary Oliver. Every time I see it, I am filled with a sense of possibility. And since the recent election here in the US, Possibility fills the air! It's all about living true lives, isn't it?
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention,
how to fall down into the grass...
how to be idle and blessed,
how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me,
what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
- Mary Oliver

Here's something I came across some time ago. It reminds me to be in the present.
Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
And realities of your existence.
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action.
The splendour of achievement.
For yesterday is only a dream
And tomorrow is but a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Kalidasa. Sanskrit poet, c 4th century.
